CCS article on PGCET Notification Delay
VTU PGCET NOTIFICATION DELAY -Students Under Trouble
The Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) was conducted by Vishveshwaraya Technological University(VTU) until last year under the monitoring of Central Post Graduate Admission Committee (CPAC). But the story is quite different this time. As per the notification published by VTU in its official website www.vtu.ac.in, the PGCET 2011 will not be conducted by VTU, but the same will be conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), the board which conducts the popular CET exam for PUC students.
The entrance test for the selection of Post Graduate seats for the admissions into MBA/MCA/MTech under government quota was conducted by VTU till last year. Usually the applications were made available from 2nd week of May & 1st week of June being the last date to submit the dully filled forms. Even then the students faced difficult to apply because of their semester exams which were scheduled between this period. This year, already the degree examinations have begun and till now there is no information regarding PGCET 2011. It is not clear that who is going to conduct PGCET 2011. VTU is pointing towards KEA, whereas KEA has not yet given any official notifications regarding this. This has created ambiguity among more than 1.5 lakh degree post graduation aspirants.
Another important noticeable fact is, from last year, the applying pattern for MBA PGCET was quite different. The applications were not available online, instead the student were supposed to collect it in person from the selected centres. Between their semester exam schedule, it was very difficult for the students to go to selected centres like bangalore, mysore, and other places at the crucial hours of their exams. This has affected the students of rural areas & most of them were unable to apply.
One more important fact to be noticed is MAT(Management Aptitude Test) exams – conducted by AIMS to fill the Management seats are getting filled before Government quota seats. This seems to be horrible but true. Most of the colleges have already started admissions on MAT score. Because of the PGCET delay, the students will be forced to go for the management seats under MAT score which shall cost them 3 to 4 times more than the PGCET fee structure. A delay in conducting PGCET Exam and thereby the subsequent counseling would mean that students who are not sure of securing the required rank for his/her desired institute are forced to go under the management quota even before writing the PGCET exam which otherwise would have been a calculated decision based on the comparative scoring of the different entrance exams.
Due to these ambiguities, there are likely chances for a student to divert thier mind & go for other alternative courses or for job. This will make a negative remark on not only PGCET, but also on Karnataka Education System. So, on behalf of the entire students’ community, I request the concerned authority to take proper measures & make PGCET and its admission process to run in smooth manner so that every common student is benefitted.
